Micah has been providing specialist NFP law services for almost 20 years. Early in his career, Sparke Helmore’s Newcastle office had a substantial registered club and credit union practice. Although we don’t normally consider these as NFPs in the charitable sense, they were “mutuals” – companies limited by guarantee (or co-operatives) with a particular purpose and certain tax exempt statuses. Micah became the go to guy within that firm (Australia wide) for: mergers, constitution changes, NFP contracting and other similar matters for those clients. A number of Hunter-based auditors also recognised this.
On his return to Newcastle in 2007, some of these auditors (who audited NFPS including housing providers, disability charities and faith-based entities) referred this same type of work to Micah. His true NFP practice was born! It has since become the Hunter’s premier NFP practice servicing NFPs throughout NSW (including their subsidiaries throughout Australasia).
